These horses originated in the Arabian Peninsula and were brought to North Africa in the eighth century. Thus, the popular breed is more than five thousand years old, and Arab thoroughbreds are bred all over the world today.

A great intelligence and a fiery character are the characteristics of an Arab thoroughbred. The Arab is a sensitive animal and a rider must first gain his trust, after which the horse will do anything for him.
Features:
The Arabian thoroughbred is a muscular horse but often does not weigh much more than 500 pounds. The horse has a rather small head with large expressive eyes and a finely shaped nose. Most Arabians have a concave bend in the nose. The ears are small and pointed. The neck is narrow and slightly arched and the chest is proportionately broad. The tail is graceful and carried away from the body.
